We brought our three children to ride the train as a reward for my three year old successfully potty training over the summer. We originally wanted to go to Cuyahoga but they were completely sold out that weekend and we didn't want to drive all the way to Oil City and back for a 1-2 hour train ride. I found Kiski Junction via a Google search and decided to go because it was closer to home than Oil City. It was a wonderful way to spend our Saturday afternoon and our little girl was in element riding "the Choo choo".

I love trains can't wait to ride the rails

Very pleasurable ride with beautiful colors abound

The train ride with Santa is an excellent stop off with the kiddos every year!

They do not have a snack car, so you might want to bring snacks or bottled water from home or you can buy popcorn from their gift shop. The car we rode in was open air and the other cars are not air conditioned. They also do not run the train if the temperature gets above a certain point.

Took our three year old grandson for a real train ride here, and he loved it. They are a working freight railway / shortline that hauls freight into / out of an industrial plant several miles off Conrail's mainline. To get there, go about two miles North of Leechburg, PA on PA 66 until you come to a blinker. Turn left and go another 2 miles or so until the road ducks down over the railroad tracks and dead ends. They haul freight (when there is any) on Tuesdays & Fridays at 2:00 p.m. And they leave on time. Schenley is a very tiny place, so there are no commercial services there (or nearby). But you can bring a picnic lunch and eat on the train -- or just watch the Kiski River rolling by. Total trip took maybe 1.5 to 2 hours. Peak Fall foliage season is October, so that month you need reservations. After that, they shut down passenger operations for the winter. The operation is very family friendly. A different fun thing to do, at least once.
